2. CRYSTALLINE CORE OF THE TATRA MASSIF

Programme: Participants will have possibility to see different types of granitoids and their enclaves in the Tatra Mts. The Variscan granitoid rocks, differing in geochemical and petrographical features, were generated in active continental margin regime during subduction, collision, uplift events in the time period covering ~390-320 Ma. Among them both mantle plume influenced, shoshonitic melts and typical anatectic crustal melts could be divided. The slab breakoff is suggested as a dominating process. Mixing and mingling of different types of magma operated at all stages of granitoid magmatism. The guides will show the Variscan granitoids around the Morskie Oko Area, which is used to be called „the small Alps”.
